This year, as one of the events FRANOVIK will participate will be the Renaissance Ball to benefit Prestige Club at the Signature Grand, January 28th.

We will be dressing Lady Doris Muscarella and Lord Daniel Kolber. Lady Doris, President of Women of the Roundtable will be honored for her outstanding work in the community for Women of the Roundtable, WRT Charitable Foundation and The Children's Diagnostic and Treatment Center.

I like to watch game shows especially Jeopardy to challenge my mind but yesterday, I was shocked when watching Wheel of Fortune and at the end of the show Vanna White was wearing a leopard print dress, it wasn't the prettiest dress shes worn but then again the show is not about her but she gets some airplay.

As the show ends, Pat comments on her dress and she responds “ Leopard print never goes out of style”. Was she on something? I was gagging, Are you kidding me, All styles, and prints go in and out of style. When did she become a fashion designer or stylist?

The key is to know when to bring it out and when to keep it in the closet. I have to admit, she’s been kind of a style Icon but she’s not all that. She should keep to wearing what she wants and turn the squares; not impose a style that’s not in right now.

This summer, go with solids, not prints especially animal prints!!!! Look at corals, light tans, bronzes, taupes, not even pastels and mix it up, please not animal prints. Sorry Vanna, not a good call....

FRANOVIK'S NEW INTERNATIONAL DIVISION

Exciting news: Franovik's expanding to the International Market!

Arianna Diaz to be appointed INTERNATIONAL LIAISON for Franovik's new division FASHOMODA Consulting!

This new venue will place Franovik on the International Forefront by opening satellite office in countries outside the United States.

The first country will be Venezuela. Venezuela will be key for various reasons. The most obvious is because Franovik's lead designer Francisco Perez is from Venezuela. Francisco is also President of his family owned business in Caracas.

Francisco will be key in FASHOMODA's development. I will always be involved since FASHOMODA Consulting is another division of VMV Marketing-Franovik Designs, which I

continue to be sole proprietor and Chief Executive Officer of all divisions.

Plans for other countries to consider will be Canada, Dominican Republic, Panama, Peru, and India. This will be a huge undertaking for us at Franovik Designs but we feel it's the next step in branding Franovik, Models&Designers magazine, and the other divisions.

THE ROYAL WEDDING

Like everyone else, at least fans of the Royals, I was up at 4:00am to see the pageantry of the wedding and everything that goes with it. Also I wanted to gasp for air on the fashions and criticize the “what was she thinking” Celebs, royals and guests.

Now onto the bride: Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge. She was stunning, simple but elegant. She was being compared to Grace Kelly and the late Diana. No comparison between her and

Diana, two different era’s and situations.

I absolutely love the dress, especially when I saw the train and the dress skirt were one; Sarah Burton created a stunning design! They spoke about the detailing but you really could not see it but I trust we will soon.

I was also checking out the ladies in the beautiful church, dress attire nothing to brag about unless you were Victoria Beckham, which I will get too. The hats were stunning, OMG, Victoria’s was chic, cute, loved the color and the hair was working.

I loved them; there was one in particular that was “FREAKIN” Amazing, it was a side hat, shinny charcoal which also had a bow on her hair. My God, I wanted that hat, for my collection ofcourse (not for me, I have a big head, no sense of making it bigger). Anyway and the Bird wearing it was lovely as well.

There were a few I hated, the first that comes to mind in Camilla’s…(What were you thinking). You’re Camilla!!!! You should have had one of the CHICest, most Stunning, most Savage, most OOTW-“Out Of This World” hat. This should had been the hat of all hats, yet you went with that pasty beige color atrocity which had a bow or a flower, I had to pull away and not look any further, two thumbs down.

Also, The Queen, Lemon? Wow, although the color is very in now because of spring but the hat, What Happened? I assume that hat was the most expensive of all the hats there but so simple? I, me, myself would have had the most Kickass Alexis Carrington, throw down, in your face Badass hat. Mine would have told every other hat to go home, even the fabulous Victoria and Black Charcoal hat with bow; that I just adore.

I won’t go on but Prince William and Harry’s cousins (Eugenie and Beatrice) did not fend well either, maybe the cute little blue feathered one but not the other hat which looked like abnormal curved antlers. OMG WWST (what was she thinking).

It was a wonderful wedding; Unfortunately, I had to get to work but not before seeing them on the balcony and seeing them kiss, as I did before with Charles and Diana.

The wedding has set the tone of my day, nothing better to see a lovely wedding and or celebration in the morning before going to work.

It's Sarah Burton!

The Alexander McQueen designer made Kate Middleton's wedding dress.

Burton was long-rumored to be the dressmaker, with buzz starting in March that she'd been tapped for the job. The Sunday Times of London first claimed Burton was The Chosen One and the rest of the British newspapers and, of course, Twitter really went to town.

But, Burton squelched the speculation, telling Vogue UK, "I am not doing it," and McQueen CEO Jonathan Akeroyd, who was said to have leaked the news to a colleague, which then ended up in the Times, denied the reports, remarking, "No, not at all. I am the CEO. I would know if we were doing it."

The turning point was Thursday night when a photograph of a woman appearing to be Burton was spotted entering The Goring Hotel, where Kate Middleton spent the night.

Miss Catherine Middleton's Wedding Dress has been designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen.

Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing. Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterizes Alexander McQueen's work. Miss Middleton worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress.

The dress epitomizes timeless British craftsmanship by drawing together talented and skilled workmanship from across the United Kingdom. The dress design pays tribute to the Arts and Crafts tradition, which advocated truth to materials and traditional craftsmanship using simple forms and often Romantic styles of decoration. Ms Burton's design draws on this heritage, additionally giving the cut and the intricate embellishment a distinctive, contemporary and feminine character.

The design

The lace appliqué for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework, based at Hampton Court Palace. The lace design was hand-engineered (appliquéd) using the Carrickmacross lace-making technique, which originated in Ireland in the 1820s. Individual flowers have been hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tulle to create a unique and organic design, which incorporates the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock.

Hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace has been used throughout the bodice and skirt, and has been used for the underskirt trim. With laces coming from different sources, much care was taken to ensure that each flower was the same color. The whole process was overseen and put together by hand by Ms Burton and her team.

The dress is made with ivory and white satin gazar. The skirt echoes an opening flower, with white satin gazar arches and pleats. The train measures two meters 70 centimeters. The ivory satin bodice, which is narrowed at the waist and padded at the hips, draws on the Victorian tradition of corsetry and is a hallmark of Alexander McQueen's designs. The back is finished with 58 gazar and organza covered buttons fastened by Rouleau loops. The underskirt is made of silk tulle trimmed with Cluny lace.

The Fabrics

French Chantilly lace was combined with English Cluny lace to be hand-worked in the Irish Carrickmacross needlework tradition.

All other fabrics used in the creation of the dress were sourced from and supplied by British companies. The choice of fabrics followed extensive research by Sarah Burton and her team.

The Royal School of Needlework

The Royal School of Needlework (RSN), based at Hampton Court Palace, assisted the Alexander McQueen team in accurately cutting out the delicate motifs from the lace fabrics and positioning the lace motifs with precision into the new design. The lace motifs were pinned, 'framed up' and applied with stab stitching every two to three millimeters around each lace motif. The workers washed their hands every thirty minutes to keep the lace and threads pristine, and the needles were renewed every three hours, to keep them sharp and clean.

The RSN workers included existing staff, former staff, tutors, graduates and students, with the youngest aged 19.

The RSN's work was used primarily for the train and skirt of the Bride's dress, the bodice and sleeves, the Bride's shoes and the Bride's veil.

Veil and Jewellery

The veil is made of layers of soft, ivory silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers, which was embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework. The veil is held in place by a Cartier 'halo' tiara, lent to Miss Middleton by The Queen. The 'halo' tiara was made by Cartier in 1936 and was purchased by The Duke of York (later King George VI) for his Duchess (later Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother) three weeks before he succeeded his brother as King. The tiara was presented to Princess Elizabeth (now The Queen) by her mother on the occasion of her 18th birthday.

The Bride's earrings, by Robinson Pelham, are diamond-set stylized oak leaves with a pear shaped diamond set drop and a pavé set diamond acorn suspended in the centre. Inspiration for the design comes from the Middleton family's new coat of arms, which includes acorns and oak leaves. The earrings were made to echo the tiara. The earrings were a personal gift to the Bride from her parents for her Wedding Day.

Robinson Pelham have also designed and made a pair of diamond earrings for Miss Philippa Middleton. These earrings are more floral in nature to compliment the headpiece worn by Miss Philippa Middleton during the Service.

A tourmaline and diamond pendant and matching earrings have been designed and made for Mrs. Carole Middleton. Two gold stick pins, one with a single gold acorn at the head and the other with an oak leaf, are also worn respectively by the Father of the Bride, Mr. Michael Middleton, and the Bride's brother, Mr. James Middleton.

Wedding Shoes

The wedding shoes have made hand-made by the team at Alexander McQueen and are made of ivory duchesse satin with lace hand-embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework.

Burton issued a statement to the press talking about the dress (via Harper's Bazaar):

“It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress, and I have enjoyed every moment of it. It was such an incredible honor to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created. I am delighted that the dress represents the best of British craftsmanship. Alexander McQueen’s designs are all about bringing contrasts together to create startling and beautiful clothes and I hope that by marrying traditional fabrics and lacework, with a modern structure and design we have created a beautiful dress for Catherine on her wedding day.

“The last few months have been very exciting and an incredible experience for my team and I as we have worked closely with Catherine to create this dress under conditions of the strictest secrecy. Understandably, Catherine has been very keen to keep the details of her dress a secret, which is every bride’s prerogative, and we gave an undertaking to keep our role confidential until the day of the wedding.

“Catherine looked absolutely stunning today, and the team at Alexander McQueen are very proud of what we have created. The dress was just one component of a spectacular day, and I do not think it is appropriate to comment any further beyond saying that I personally am very grateful and honored to have been given the opportunity to work on this project, and I wish TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge every good wish for the future.”

A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF ME…..

I sit and think of what a year…This economy is still hurting me like everyone else. I’m some what disappointed, we haven’t sold as many garments as we would have wanted, again it goes back to the economy. On the positive side, our garments have been featured in local as well as international events.

I am happy that more people know of FRANOVIK and we are sort after more and more. On and on we have been blessed and have accomplished several things, have created new relationships and severed some older ones.

It’s been a learning experience and we continue to learn. I have faced the facts that some people are just in it for them and although I give them the benefit of the doubt, at the end of the day, it turns out it’s about them. No worries I believe there is a higher power that looks over these things and somehow it evens out….

2010 brought us some wins like out national costume at the Miss Earth competition in Vietnam. Danielle Bounds, the current Miss Earth United States, was spectacular and did our costume justice. Maytee Martinez, one of our models made the cover of LMH wearing one of our dresses.

Models that we have used keep maling them names for themselves, like Esther Dollar, Jana Murrell, Denise Garrido and Sarah Fitzgerald. By the way, our Sarah got married, Congratulations to her and hubby, many blessings. (Kiss, Kiss)

We also created the “Elements of Green” showcase, which was featured in March for fashion weeks in Miami. We were featured in several magazines like BAYFRONT magazine, Nubia Rose magazine, newspapers like WESTON NEWS, HOLA TV in West Palm Beach, Radio station WRHC with Mildred Leal and Web Media, among others.

Still something was missing; my magazine Models&Designers is still not out, it’s finished and still on the shelf. I am debating if I should go digital or actual paper. There is a story on Belinda Carlisle and her son Mason as part of the first celebrity interview done by Christopher DeStefano. Also articles written by Esther Dollar, Tessa Boudreaux and myself.

I guess It’s all about timing. One of my disappointments this year was not being in the Winterfest Boat Parade, but it’s all my fault for dropping the ball. I have dropped the ball this year on many occasions; you see, I fell into a little depression, which comes and goes.

You’re probably wondering, what does that mean?, you either have it or not, but it’s not that simple. Maybe there is a medical term for it but for me, it’s all about what’s happening in my life and the amount of work I have that triggers it.

I wonder if it is worth all the aggravation, I don’t see the progress fast enough although I have been re-assured that I have everything in place done by two independent public relationists and a public relations company in the business.

It’s all about the big break, and God knows I have had them but they’re almost there but something fell short of becoming reality.I have faith it’s going to happen, I believe good things happen to good people or those with good hearts but when do I get to sing, “It’s my turn”….

FRANOVIK DESIGNERS save a tree

The City of Fort Lauderdale are re-investing in several cities by installing new and re-paving sidewalks in efforts to beautify streets in local neighborhoods and main roadways like State Road 7 (441) among others.

As you all know, when this happens many of us are inconvenienced and some items suffer like home landscapes, bushes and most of all trees.

We planted a beautiful Poinciana tree several years ago in the front on our home, sure enough because of the re-paving of the sidewalks; our tree was going to suffer, meaning it was going to be removed.

This tree is a floral tree full of rich red and orange flowers, its quite a spectacle when the tree is in bloom. This tree also attracts native birds and insects that like the sap of the flowers.

The tree is four (4) years old; the tree was going to be torn down, because it was in the way and it’s the easy way out of things. Luckily, there are people that care for the environment and go the extra mile to save it.

Throughout the process, Frank and Gloria, our neighbor spoke to several of the workers, who said the tree was going to be cut down and anything along the way of progress including Gloria’s fountain that was brought down from Guatemala.

When I got wind of what was going to happen to the tree, I started to contact the city, the contractor; I even called the commissioner. If I had too I would have gone higher including the governor. The project manager, Marcus was a gentleman, got a hold of me and came over to survey my house and come up with a solution to my dilemma.

Finally, we reached an agreement; the sidewalk was going to get a small shift, clearing the tree of its path and saving the tree. So I achieved the goal of saving my tree.

The sidewalk was done up to the property line of my house, you see the bulldozer behind the tree, starting Monday they start paving the front of my house, let us pray the approval is not over turned, as this is becoming a common practice in our country (hint, hint) but that’s another story or shall I say stories.

Miss Earth United States 2010 arrives……

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Danielle Bounds, currently Miss Earth United States is here for

three days of intense work. She was greeted at the airport and then taken to her hotel room.

She checked in went to her room to refresh before we went to fittings.

Frank and I had worked all day so we were tired and hungry, so was Danielle. So we went to a local restaurant, where we had surf & turf, discussed the agenda and answered questions.

From the restaurant we took a brief tour of the tourist traps and went home to fit the national costume.

Danielle fit perfectly, minor adjustment but it fit like a glove. While Frank added more medallions to the outfit, I began to pull dresses for Danielle to put on. These were the items for the photo shoot on Sunday.

The evening ended on a high and we were all exhausted, it truly was a long day.

Saturday

I had to work that Saturday morning at an International Cardiology conference (MIRS) at Doral. Meanwhile, Danielle and Frank where at the beach checking out and buying bathing suits for the trip. I heard they had breakfast on the beach, overlooking the beautiful Hollywood coast.

One of the things Evan wanted Danielle to do was to hook up with Jana. So I started texting Jana and left a message. Jana called back and I found out that she had moved to the West Coast but we lucked out; Jana was in South Florida for the day.

Jana Murrell is former Miss Earth United States 2008. Jana, Danielle and Frank had

lunch while I was on my way to the house from the conference. I was also talking to Esther Dollar, who was waiting for us as well. Danielle and Esther are friends and wanted to spend sometime together.

We went down to Miami to pick up Esther. Esther is a current titleholder at another pageant system. We did a little sightseeing then proceeded to go to Lincoln Road for dinner.

The evening was gorgeous, breezy, in the 70”s, the evening sky was clear and Lincoln Road was "kickin" with people.

Dinner was great, conversations were lively and educational. After dinner, we went around and did some more shopping. Stores stay open till around 2:00 in the morning on Lincoln Road. It was a long day for everyone, jumped in the car and went home.

Sunday

We got up late, I was started to get ready putting outfits, shoes, make up, and props in the car. We picked up Danielle and Esther and headed over to the shoot where Don Seidman was waiting for us.

We were there 4 hours; we shot the garments and lastly the costume. The costume is big and beautiful and Danielle looked stunning. I can’t and won’t ruin the surprise by placing a picture before the actual Vietnam pageant but it’s a force to be recon with.

Don was a professional and a visionary; we also shot a couple of pictures with spirit products so we can

pitch them to their companies.

After the shoot we went and had lunch, took Esther home in Miami and then home for a little while and then took Danielle to her hotel room. She was leaving the following morning.

I got home and kept working on the pictures until 1:00 in the morning, went to bed, had to work the following.

Thanks Danielle, you make us proud and you do our costume so much justice….now bring home the CROWN!!!!!

OUR DRESS ON THE BLUE CARPET AT MIAMI STYLE AWARDS

MIAMI STYLE AWARDS.....Lauren Goodman, Miss Earth Florida Gulf Coast at the Miami Style Awards last Wednesday at the W hotel, Miami Beach.

The Style awards, a part of Miami International Fashion Week, a product of Beth Sobol was an event to be at.

As per Lauren the evening was exciting and was a wonderful experience. I was greeted by Ms Sobol and then photographed and interviewed. Throughout the evening, myself, Andrea and Kelly met and mingled with all the guests as we walked throughout the event. The event was held outside, the Miami night was wonderful, a little windy but that's Miami for you.

Everyone was entertained by Cuban singer Albita, she was awesome. All in All the evening was fun, it was nice to be amongst the beautiful people of Miami.

Lauren is wearing an original Franovik Designs made of recycled curtain blackout material. This garment was made specially for the ELEMENTS OF GREEN collection, seen at Design Miami week in March of this year.

Fiber Helps Keep the Doctor Away

An apple a day -- plus a few more fruits, vegetables and whole grains -- might really help keep the doctor away. All are packed with fiber, an ingredient science is increasingly showing may stave off heart disease, diabetes, cancer and weight gain.

Fiber, a.k.a. roughage, is a form of carbohydrate the body can't absorb. It's found in abundance in produce, beans, and grains such as brown rice and whole wheat.

"Most people come up short on their daily intake of fiber," says Sari Greaves, registered dietitian and spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. "Most Americans only get about 15 grams, which is about half the amount your body needs."

Men 50 and younger should eat at least 38 grams of fiber a day, and women the same age should consume at least 25 grams, according to the Institute of Medicine. Men 51 and up should get at least 30 grams of fiber daily, and women in that age bracket should eat 21. (The recommendations are based on how many calories we need, which tends to decline with age.)

Traditionally fiber has been touted for its ability to keep digestion regular. But it's healthy for other reasons, too.

Heart Disease

Numerous studies have shown that the greater a person's fiber consumption, the lower his risk of heart disease and heart-related death. A 2008 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that risk of coronary disease-related death dropped by 17 percent for every 10-gram increase in fiber consumption, and the risk of death from any cause fell by 9 percent.

Fiber may prevent heart disease for several reasons. It lowers LDL, or "bad" cholesterol, and reduces blood pressure and insulin resistance (the body's ability to regulate sugar), all of which are risk factors for heart disease, according to a 2004 study in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

High fiber intake also is linked to lower levels of C-reactive protein, says Katherine Tallmadge, registered dietitian and another ADA spokeswoman. C-reactive protein is a marker of inflammation that predicts recurrent strokes and possibly heart attacks in people who haven't had one before, according to the American Heart Association.

Tallmadge adds that fiber usually isn't working alone but is effective because it's bundled with other nutrients that promote health. In the case of heart disease, she says, high-fiber foods such as leafy greens, legumes and fortified cereals also contain folate, low levels of which are associated with coronary disease. "The fiber is only one of many of the reasons these foods prevent these diseases," Tallmadge says. "The fiber is really a marker of eating a lot of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes -- basically a very healthy, diverse and plant-based diet."

Cancer

The jury is still out on whether fiber has an effect on cancer development. A 2005 analysis of studies published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that it made no difference in the development of colorectal cancer, but other research has suggested that fiber-rich diets reduce the risk of those tumors. Any beneficial effects may come not from the fiber but from vitamins and minerals in high-fiber foods, according to the National Cancer Institute.

"Typically, people eating high-fiber diets are also not eating foods high in saturated fats, like fatty meats, butter and whole-milk dairy products, and saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of colon cancer," Greaves says.

The evidence for fiber as a cancer weapon is somewhat stronger for breast tumors. A British study that followed more than 35,000 women for up to nine years found that breast cancer risk was lower among premenopausal -- but not postmenopausal -- women who ate fiber-rich diets. Fiber from cereals was linked to the least risk, and fiber-containing fruits had a "borderline" impact, the scientists wrote in 2007 in the International Journal of Epidemiology.

A study published last year in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found a benefit for older women, too: Among 185,000 postmenopausal women, those who ate the most fiber had a 13 percent lower breast cancer risk than those who consumed the least.

Fiber may have an indirect effect on cancer by speeding the passage of food through the digestive tract and minimizing the amount of time the body is exposed to potentially harmful molecules, Greaves says.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

People with irritable bowel syndrome battle diarrhea, constipation, and the cramping and bloating that come with. Though it may seem counterintuitive, fiber can help manage IBS.

A study published this year in the British Medical Journal that compared the fiber supplement psyllium with bran and a placebo found that IBS symptoms decreased most among patients taking psyllium. While they improved somewhat in those eating bran, many people in that arm of the trial dropped out because their symptoms got worse. For that reason, the Mayo Clinic recommends experimenting with types of fiber and increasing your consumption gradually.

Look for insoluble fiber found in bran and the skin of fruits and vegetables, Greaves suggests. Insoluble forms add bulk to stool that helps maintain bowel regularity. "I like to call them 'nature's broom' because they move through your digestive tract without being broken down, and in this way they can help promote regularity and prevent constipation," she says. Psyllium can be helpful, too; it's a soluble type of fiber that holds on to water, which helps slow digestion.

Diabetes

Fiber is a boon to people looking to prevent diabetes and who already have the disease. Research has consistently shown that a diet that includes high-fiber cereals (those that contain whole grains) is associated with a lower risk of diabetes, according to a 2008 review in the Journal of Nutrition.

Fiber is good for people with diabetes because it doesn't raise blood sugar levels, according to the Joslin Diabetes Center. And patients who eat high-fiber diets have lower fasting insulin levels, a marker of overall blood sugar, Tallmadge adds. Aim for 25 to 50 grams a day if you have the disease, doctors recommended in a 2004 study in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition.

"People with insulin resistance and diabetes would benefit from getting more soluble fibers because they prevent blood sugar swings that often happen in those conditions," Greaves says.

Weight Management

Fiber is a tool to maintain and lose weight. Among 74,000 women followed for 12 years, those who ate the most fiber had a 49 percent lower risk of major weight gain than women who consumed the least, according to a 2003 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Fiber works by making you feel full, so you eat less. And the highest-fiber foods also tend to be the lowest in calories, Greaves says, so long as that fiber occurs naturally. Manufactured products with fiber added to them tend to be higher in calories and less healthy overall, Tallmadge says.

"If you're watching your waistline, you may not want to go to the high-sugar granola to get your fiber," Greaves says. "You may want to go for a whole grain, unsweetened cereal instead."

Julie Rabbani, Editor in Chief of Bayfront Magazine hosted a lavish launch at LIV last night. Julie was surrounded by friends, family, photographers, associates, colleagues, local celebrities and featured designers Viktor and Francisco of Franovik Designs.

The evening was hot, as most Miami Beach nights are, the music was kicking, drinks flowing and the most beautiful people came out on a Wednesday night to celebrate.

Julie looked dashing last night, and the magazine…..the STAR of the evening was sensational. I saw people flipping through the pages, some folks spotted us and came over to congratulate us and ask us why ECO COUTURE; as we explained the why, what, and how most got the picture of what we were all about.

It’s about helping the environment and making use of what we have and recreating instead of tossing or putting it away in storage. Recycling is what we do, it’s more than just ECO, it’s creating “Wearable Pieces of Art” and giving back to the community; another part of Franovik, which is fundraising for needy causes.

As we waited for LIV to open its’ doors, we took a tour with a bottle of bubbly as we walked all over. It’s been a while since I last visited the Fontainebleau; the renovations are really good. The HUGE bar as you walk in was packed, as I walked out to the pool the breeze was inviting, it said “just lay by the pool and enjoy” not in a suit unfortunately….Maybe next time we will make it a day.

All and all it was a great evening full of energy, Miami is such a party town. We met new people and made new friends locally and from the West Coast of Florida, SUP NAPLES!!!!!

Thank you Julie, and your staff. You really made us feel special! We are so looking to the future and building on our relationship. Who knows, we could do a launching of Models & Designers, our magazine in Naples too…..

THE VIVACIOUS JESSICA WILD

Franovik Designs and Miss Jessica Wild, Finalist in Rupaul’s Drag Race will be working together putting a fashion show to raise money for HIV/AIDS.

Jessica and I met Saturday in Puerto Rico at Yolandita Monge's concert.

Jessica, along with other drag performers represented Ms Monge in her various changes throughout her career.

They came down the stairs, very well choreographed, each one carrying a different letter that

spelled out YOLANDITA’s name on stage.

The concert was amazing and "the Girls" did awesome. They were in the show constantly, so we got to see Jessica in all her splendor.

What can I say about Jessica, besides that I am a fan, who represented herself and Puerto Rico very well on the show (She should have won). I went backstage continuously and spoke to Jessica. I found out that she is putting out a record soon and she is very passionate about giving back to community.

Google Jessica Wild for upcoming events, her record and facebook her. She is a sweetheart!

We want to put on a fashion show, where Drag Queens will be showcasing our designs for a good cause. We want to educate and create awareness on this chronic disease, luckily the medications have and will extend the life of the infected but it is not the cure.

And we must not be complacent because the meds extend lives; We must continue to invest time and money on HIV/AIDS research.

Let us not forget all the other illnesses like cancer, heart disease and other chronic diseases.

I had the pleasure and honor to view and work with the Ultimate Puerto Rican Diva, Yolandita Monge. The show was at the Puerto Rican Coliseum (Choliseo).

The show started with a parade of drag queens dressed representing all of Yolandita’s stages in her career. Among the Drag performers was the vivacious Jessica Wild, finalist in Rupaul’s Drag Race.

The concert was a tribute to 20 years of her “Vivencias” album, which was one of her top selling albums.

Yolandita took us on a rollercoaster of emotions, from the soft “Cierra los Ojos” to “Por Ti”, her opening number.

The performance was a winner, depending on the song; she was transformed into a Madonna type performance, especially when the bed prop came out, Scandalous!

The crowd of course participated singing along with her. Yolandita took sometime to take requests from her fans, which I thought was very special.

That coliseum was packed, they had to bring more chairs and people were standing to see her; I had to give up my seat for a last minute invitation. Trust me, I was happy going backstage and to the area.

She and the family are personal friends of mine so I have the pleasure of being in the melting pot of her performance. We, Franovik Designs, will be dressing her as well.

The highlight of the show was the closing song where the whole coliseum became a block party; there were “Vejigantes”, Puerto Rican Folklore, performers on stilts matching bands, stompers, everyone jumping and singing. It was AWESOME!

I heard through the grapevine that their will be an encore presentation in another location in Puerto Rico when she returns from Dominican Republic where she has two presentations.

For Yolandita fans this is a show that you must see and for those that are not fans, become fans….She’s AMAZING!

ORGANIC WINE: HEALTHIER FOR YOU AND THE ENVIRONMENT

Do you like ending your day with a glass of wine but would love to skip out on the headache the morning after? Don’t we all! Organic wine may be your answer! The no sulfite-added quality of organic wine can make a dramatic difference for those wine enthusiasts who are sensitive to this preservative regularly added in the traditional wine producing process. What’s even better, the organic farming and wine making processes are better for the environment and for our health.

America’s interest in naturally produced foods and goods has given a boost to the organic wine industry. So what makes a wine organic? According to the National Organic Program (NOP), organic wine is defined as wine made from organically grown grapes without any added sulfite. Organic or not, grapes naturally produce sulfur dioxide through the process of fermentation. A certain amount of sulfate is needed for the stability of the wine. However, conventional wineries add sulfate to expedite fermentation and longer preservation. An organic wine will include a maximum of 100 parts per million of sulfate (ppm) while the conventional wine contains over 350ppm.

Don’t be fooled! When looking for a great organic wine, be cautious not to confuse “sulfite free wine” with “organic wine” because the two differ greatly. Sulfite free wine is processed to remove the sulfate but it does not have to be produced in an eco friendly way.

Organic vineyards promote an environmentally safe way of farming by reducing the negative ecological impacts from chemicals such as pollution, soil depletion, and lack of biodiversity. To be considered organic, the grapes are holistically grown without the use of any pesticides, fungicides, chemical fertilizers, and other synthetic products that are harmful to the environment.

Many organic vineyards, like Bonterra Vineyard, are centering their viticulture philosophy on biodynamic farming practices, which views the land as the focal point and as a living system that’s to be in tune with the totality of all life. These organic growing practices are dependent upon living organisms, weather, and moon patterns to keep perfect harmony with nature. Coturri Winery, located in the Sonoma Mountains of California, is also known for its dedication of being environmentally conscious.

How about the taste? California’s Coturri Winery has received numerous awards for its organic wines. Being the leading American organic vineyard, it has been featured in the Wall Street Journal more than six times since 1999 and has received the highest rating possible from Wall Street Journal reviewers Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher.

In the east, a popular wine store in Wesley Chapel, Fla., Put a Cork In It, sells an assortment of organic brands along with conventional wines. The storeowner, Phil Kitchingman, says that organic wine is “a growing industry that will be the future of all wine partially because organic wine allows people to enjoy wine without worrying about headaches.” Kitchingman added that he sees an increasing number of people steering away from sulfates in wine by embracing the organic brands. The organic wine industry “is a great way for people with allergies to drink wine,” he commented. People can come on Thursday and Friday evenings to the store and take part in a wine tasting event for $25. At this event, you can learn about an assortment of wines while enjoying grapes, cheese and crackers, and great company. Kitchingman has recently featured a handful of organic wines at his events. Among these organic wines were The Casablanca, Chile Chardonnay, Novas, a major hit with its crisp honeyed fruit taste with a great balance of minerality. The Clos Roche Blanc, a Sauvignon Blanc from France, which was showcased as a fantastic wine to pair with seafood and chicken entrees. The Italian Pinot Grigio, Tiamo was a personal favorite of his that features a fresh citrus taste mixed with flavors of tangerine hinted with pineapple, white pepper and a light mineral finish.

The U.S. is catching up in organic wine production although much of these eco-friendly wines are imported from foreign countries. California produces more than 90 percent of the U.S. organic wine that is shipped all over the states. With the increase in national and global environmental issues, the organic industry has a hearty future. Organic vineyards are one leading example for the rest of America’s agriculture to follow.

TEA AND HOW GOOD IT MAY BE

Drinking tea is supposed to be healthy for you because of what it contains. In this case let us consider polyphenols. In theory, a polyphenol has the ability to act as an antioxidant to scavenge free radicals and up-regulate certain metal chelation reactions. An antioxidant helps to regulate or clean up the cell's internal functions and so make you healthier as a result. The first measurements of healthful antioxidant levels in commercial bottled tea beverages has concluded that health-conscious consumers may not be getting what they pay for: healthful doses of those antioxidants, or "poylphenols," that may ward off a range of diseases.

Tea is the agricultural product of the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, prepared and cured by various methods. "Tea" also refers to the aromatic beverage prepared from the cured leaves by combination with hot or boiling water, and is the common name for the Camellia sinensis plant itself.

Tea contains various types of polyphenols, a type of antioxidant. In a freshly picked tea leaf, polyphenols can compose up to 30% of the dry weight. Polyphenols are highest in concentration in white and green teas, while black tea has substantially fewer.

The health benefits from drinking tea is sometimes pro and sometimes con. The theory is that the antioxidants do some good. Tea, after water, is the most commonly used world wide beverage.

Scientists have just reported at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS) that many of the increasingly popular beverages included in their study, beverages that account for $1 billion in annual sales in the United States alone, contain fewer polyphenols than a single cup of home brewed green or black tea. Some contain such small amounts that consumers would have to drink 20 bottles to get the polyphenols present in one cup of tea.

"Consumers understand very well the concept of the health benefits from drinking tea or consuming other tea products," said Shiming Li, Ph.D., who reported on the new study with Professor Chi-Tang Ho and his colleagues. "However, there is a huge gap between the perception that tea consumption is healthy and the actual amount of the healthful nutrients — polyphenols — found in bottled tea beverages. Our analysis of tea beverages found that the polyphenol content is extremely low."

Li and colleagues measured the level of polyphenols of six brands of tea purchased from supermarkets. Half of them contained what Li characterized as "virtually no" antioxidants. The rest had small amounts of polyphenols that Li said probably would carry little health benefit, especially when considering the high sugar intake from tea beverages.

The six teas Li analyzed contained 81, 43, 40, 13, 4, and 3 milligrams (mg.) of polyphenols per 16-ounce bottle. One average cup of home-brewed green or black tea, which costs only a few cents, contains 50-150 mg. of polyphenols.

A regular tea bag, for example, weighs about 2.2 grams and could contain 175 mg. of polyphenols, Li said. But polyphenols degrade and disappear as the tea bag is steeped in hot water. The polyphenol content also may vary as manufacturers change their processes, including the quantity and quality of tea used to prepare a batch and the tea brewing time.

If one drinks tea to be healthy, one is better off with fresh brewed tea and not the better tasting commercial varieties.

EAT GREEK FOR HEALTHIER SKIN

In the summer, it is a hobby of many people to lie out in the sun and work on their tans. Unfortunately, if done in excess, this hobby can lead to painful sunburns and possible skin cancer. A new study from the Tel Aviv University suggests that an effective way to prevent this is not only suntan lotion, but eating the correct foods. A diet rich in anti-oxidants and omega-3 fatty acids — common in Mediterranean regions — can protect the skin from the sun's rays.

he sun produces ultraviolet radiation that penetrates the Earth's atmosphere. Exposing human skin to these UV rays results in a darkening of skin color. The body's natural defense in protecting itself is to create a skin pigment called melanin. Melanin combines with oxygen (oxidizes), and this creates the tan color in the skin. However, overexposure can cause melanoma, which is a less common type of skin cancer, but results in 75% of all skin cancer related deaths. UV radiation also attacks the immune system, making it more difficult for the body to repair itself.

Dr. Niva Shapira of Tel Aviv University's (TAU) School of Health Professions says the prescription is to "go Greek." This means eating foods common in a Mediterranean diet such as olive oil, fish, yogurt, and colorful fruits and vegetables. In combination with traditional methods such as suntan lotion and appropriate body coverings, this will combat the oxidizing effect of solar UV radiation.

The solution, Dr. Shapira explains, is to build up anti-oxidants in the body. She performed experiments at the Baltic Sea in conjunction with Prof. Bodo Kuklinski of Rostock University. They organized two groups, one of which consumed a drink high in anti-oxidants, the other had beverages such as soda. The group which drank the anti-oxidants had half as many oxidizing products (i.e. MDA) in their blood after five to six hours of exposure to the sun per day for two weeks.

Some of the most helpful anti-oxidants are carotenoids, which are colorful fruit and vegetable pigments. This includes the reds of tomatoes and strawberries as well as the bright oranges of carrots and pumpkins. Other good foods include fish, olive oil, and whole grains.

Foods to avoid include red meat, processed foods, and alcohol with the exception of red wine which is actually good for your skin. Also, people should avoid foods containing the compound psoralen (i.e. parsley, celery, dill, cilantro, and figs).

This study is timely, especially with the specter of climate change. Higher temperature and humidity can aggravate the damages from UV rays to the point where sunscreen may not be enough.

Also, society has reached a point where it has become fashionable to have a deep tan. This was not always so. In earlier civilizations, dark tans were associated with long hours of manual labor out in the sun, and therefore, a lower social class. Some women would apply heavy makeup to their faces to appear as white as possible, a trend that continued to the Victorian Era. Sun bathing then became popular in the mid-20th century, starting with fashionistas and media stars. Now, record numbers of women work on their tan year round (tanning salons also expose the skin to UV radiation!). Hopefully, Dr. Shapira's research with TAU will help all sunbathers avoid potential skin diseases.

MISS TEEN EARTH FLORIDA TITILEHOLDERS

Last Wednesday, Franovik Designs, Salud al Dia Magazine and the Miss Earth/Miss Teen Earth Florida organization joined at the networking event of the year at the Hyatt Bonaventure in Weston.

Franovik showed a collection made for the evening of short recycled cocktail dresses made of vintage garments, curtains and bedsheets. Guests were amazed of the collection, some could not believe that they were made for these materials.

Among the guests were several hospitals, University of Miami Hospital, Kendall Regional, Baptist, Memorial and Tenet. Their were other universities, chambers, pharmaceuticals, among other industries.

Brittney Ronda, the current Miss Teen Earth Florida and Lauren Goodman, the current Miss Teen Gulf Coast-Miss Water wore Sachs and Crowns and took pictures with guests. We were all interviewed by a West Palm Beach TV station and YessYouToo.com.

Sandra Silva, Miss Earth Florida's Pageant Director was present along with the mothers of the delegates. I want to Thank my crew, Dianna Hechevarria-makeup artist, my photographer Christopher DeStefano and my lead fashion designer Francisco Perez.

THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF AN ANIMAL

For those that know me, you know I'm a sucker for a pretty face....Sometime ago, I was walking into my house and my husband Frank told me he found a sickly cat that was abandoned by his mother because the cat had no lower lip.

That crushed my heart, the kitten had a beautiful little face and I feel in love. I took him in and gave him a name, We called him Chicky. I fed Chicky everyday and nursed him to health; and believe this his lower lip grew a little. He had one tooth on the lower lip.

He grew some more and we could not contain him in the house, he wanted to be outside. So everyday as I was leaving to work he would run out and sleep under the trees till we got back.

He played with us at first but just wanted to eat and go. Sometimes at night he would go out and other cats around the neighborhood would beat him out. when I heard his cries I would run out like a parent to fend for his children.

I would throw water at the other cat and bring Chicky in. He was hurt but I would nurse back to health. From there on I would bring in at night. When Chesca would go out, he would want to play with her but my dog would not have it.

I would look forward to come home to be with my immediate family, Frank, Chesca and my little cat Chicky. He always had trouble eating so I would prepare his food differently. I would cut his food into smaller pieces and make it a little soupy so he could eat. He ate it all but Chicky would not gain weight.

A few days ago I noticed he hadn't come home, I called his name and he would not come. Every night like a worried parent I would go outside my porch and no Chicky. Thinking the worst I'd go outside to look around the are and the greenery and nothing.

Today, I got home and smelled something in the air; smells like something is de-composing. I go outside and start to look. Sure enough I see my little Chicky under a tree, laying there as if he was sleeping, flies all over the place, lifeless.

I run inside the house to tell Frank, he can't believe it, we are both crushed. We lost our little cat and find myself writing about it. He was in our life for a few months, I miss him already. I never took pictures of him especially of his cute little tooth.

I went online and checked out some pics so I could share what he looked like and what he would look like had been alive. I buried my little cat and as I write this, I could see his little grave. RIP

Good bye my little Chicky.....I miss you papi......

KELLY AND BRITTNEY REPRESENTING FLORIDA AT NATIONALS

Saturday, the Miss Earth Florida organization held their state pageant at the Downtown Hilton.

It was a lively evening with 6 delegates in the teen division and 9 delegates in the Miss division. There were 7 judges, among them Francisco and myself.

The judging started at 1:00pm, we interviewed and really drilled these ladies. We spoke about their goals, platforms and asked a variety of questions that we provided to us and also others we came up using key words they used as they introduced themselves.

We took a little longer than expected, we only had 5 minutes per delegate but these ladies had so much to say and we wanted to hear their views on so many topics including BP's oil spill.

As the pageant director pointed out anyone of these ladies could have been crowned. Unfortunately, we couldn't crown of them, we had to chose a winner in each category.

Congratulations Kelly Saks, Miss Earth Florida and Brittney Ronda, Miss Teen Earth Florida. They will be heading to Miss Earth United States and Miss Teen Earth United States nationals to be held in two weeks in Laughlin, Nevada, August 1 through 4, 2010.

I know Kelly and Brittney will do very well. LADIES BRING THE CROWN ONCE AGAIN FOR FLORIDA. Good Luck and many Blessings!

BITTEN BY THE BUG OF PAGEANTRY.....

Since it's inception, Franovik Designs has been involved with many pageants and beauty queens.

We are official costume designers for the Miss Earth United States organization, official designers for the Ms Latina International organization and have dressed delegates for the Miss Earth Cuba, Miss Cuba International, Miss Florida Intercontinental, Miss Essence and Miss Earth Florida organizations.

We have also been honored to judge at some of these events, (when we are not dressing the girls ofcourse); last night we judged at the Miss Earth Florida pageant.

With all this being said, we are proud to announce that FRANOVIK DESIGNS now has registered the MISS ECO AMERICA name.

We checked around for the other titles (World and International) but these have been taken and registered in Malaysia (duh). We happy to have at least the America portion of it, now we can focus on the Americas (the HOTTER side of the world) :-)

Now I have the daunting task to create the website, (domain is registered www.missecoamerica.com and under construction), logo, complete look, mission, vision and all the other things that come with being a titleholder.

I will rely on all my friends that have pageants as well. OMG, it just hit me, I am a Pageant Director too, am i crazy?.......

Why Gulf oil is still gushing

With oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico for almost three months, every attempt to stop the leak has failed, or fallen short. We look at how we ended up here: what BP has tried and why it has yet to succeed.

Solution: New better-fitting containment cap • BP said it was going to remove the old containment cap, replacing it with another that has a better fit. Robots removed six giant bolts from the apparatus July 11 so the new cap could be positioned.

• Scientists will then be able to gauge the pressure inside the well and determine whether the cap is holding in the oil or if crews will need to continue siphoning oil.

• BP says it will conduct a “well integrity test,” which involves closing the stack end and stemming the flow coming from the well.

• If it works, oil collection via the vessels, Q4000 and Helix Producer, will cease. BP will then close in on the perforated pipe. This process, which will be done in collaboration with U.S. government officials, could take up to 48 hours.

Expectation • In the best-case scenario, the containment cap would have the ability to actually close down the valves and slowly contain all the oil – not plug the well.

• If oil collection was still necessary, over the next two to three weeks, 60,000 to 80,000 barrels (2.52 million to 3.36 million gallons) a day could be collected as part of the containment process, BP Senior Vice President Kent Wells said. That's because the containment cap would allow four collection ships to access the well, rather than the maximum of three allowed by the old cap.

• The oil giant said earlier as well that the cap "should improve containment efficiency during hurricane season by allowing shorter disconnect and reconnect times."

• Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said he approved the cap-switch plan to take advantage of favorable weather predicted for coming days and because, once the switch is complete, the resulting capacity to contain oil "will be far greater than the capabilities we have achieved using current systems." Allen also stressed that once the capping device is on, "we would get the most accurate flow rate to date."
Outcome • Oil is still gushing as the new cap is being set in place. In the meantime, the first relief well BP plans to use to shut down the leaking oil well in the Gulf of Mexico is now just five feet away from the main well and 30 feet above the hoped-for intersection point, BP's Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles said

I am sitting in my car heading to work and my stupid cell phone automatically shuts off or the battery dies on me and I left it charging all night....What's up with that?

I'm a child of the 70's era and trust me everything we had lasted forever. Why is that? It seems like everything made years and years ago lasted longer. Cars, computers, phones, appliances, etc.

I know we live in a country of needs and demands, and the economy is stimulated every time you spend money but the disposable stuff, Whats that all about?

My dad has a Lafayette receiver from New York made in the 70's and that receiver still works

and kicks ass; It's better than any new receiver made today. Trust me, I love technology and I am a tech whore; I've gone through several receivers, and not junk brands either but they konk out.

I think the life expectancy of any new device is about a year; or the product is recalled or 6 months later a newer version comes out (Ipad-hint, hint).

Let's face it people, we live in a disposable America, everything is made by cheap labor, and the parts used are not the best, we've gone smaller and not necessarily better just faster.

I'd like to go back to those days where devices and products were made to last; A big majority of us are impulse buyers, we want to be seen with the in gadgets. We don't need someone to make a crappy products!

Look we're vain and always going to get the new version of a product even if we can't afford it.

We want to be seen with new "IT" things and devices. We don't want our friends, or colleagues to ridicule us because we have the older version of any device, OMG. Same thing goes in our homes, especially for those that like to entertain.

Right now the BIG items to have is the IPAD, Iphone 4G or any other 4G cellphone, portable scanners and the 3D TV, not a 27 inch, we're talking 52 inch or bigger.

Now the question is how long will the new devices and products last? Trust me even those are disposables and you're paying top dollar.

My next issue to tackle computers, new programs, upgrades and those dreaded viruses. Yours thoughts?

Superhero Wonder Woman gets trendy makeover

Wonder Woman has changed her looks and dons a trendy new outfit in issue 600 of the comic book series.

The super hero's star-spangled swimsuit is to be replaced by a radical new style that includes leggings.

The visual makeover goes hand in hand with changes to the Wonder Woman story, publisher DC Comics says.

DC Comics has hired a new writer, J Michael Straczynski, to give Wonder Woman's life a new direction.

Mr Straczynski told the New York Times that it had been time to bring the iconic character into the 21st Century.

"She's been locked into pretty much the exact same outfit since her debut in 1941," Mr Straczynski said. "What woman only wears only one outfit for 60-plus years?"

He said the redesign of Wonder Woman's outfit had been his priority when he took on the job.

"I wanted to toughen her up and give her a modern sensibility," Mr Straczynski said.

Superhuman powers

Wonder Woman is an Amazon with superhuman powers and the alter ego of Princess Diana of Themyscira.

During the last 69 years, she has fought a range of villains and also appeared in other comic series such as Justice League.

In the 1970s, Lynda Carter played the super heroine in the series The New Original Wonder Woman and The New Adventures of Wonder Woman.

An animated film was released last year, starring Keri Russell.

Last week, Thursday, June 18 on the telecast of Al Rojo Vivo, Maria Celeste Arraras wore a FRANOVIK original dress.

It was an honor for us to be recognized by Maria Celeste and the show. On one of my conversations with Maria Celeste, I found out she's all for the Green Movement and helps to promote the ECO movement by recycling as well, one way to promote green.

Based on information from Wikipedia and other sources here is the genesis and status of the project:

In January 2001, producer Joel Silver approached Todd Alcott to write a Wonder Woman screenplay, with Silver Pictures backing the project. Early gossip linked actresses such as Mariah Carey, Sandra Bullock, and Catherine Zeta-Jones to the role of Wonder Woman.

Leonard Goldberg, speaking in a May 2001 interview, named Sandra Bullock as a strong candidate for the project. Bullock claimed that she was approached for the role, while Lucy Lawless and Chyna both expressed interest. Lawless indicated that she would be more interested if Wonder Woman was portrayed as a "flawed hero." The screenplay then went through various drafts written by Alcott, Jon Cohen, Becky Johnston, and Philip Levens. By August 2003, Levens was replaced by screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis.

In March 2005, Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures announced that Joss Whedon would write and direct the film adaptation of Wonder Woman. Whedon's salary was reported to be between $2 to $3 million. Since Whedon was directing Serenity at the time, and required time to research Wonder Woman's background, he did not begin the screenplay until late 2005. According to Joel Silver, the script would cover Wonder Woman's origin and include Steve Trevor: "Trevor crashes on the island and they go back to Man's World." Silver wanted to film Wonder Woman in Australia once the script was completed. While Whedon stated in May 2005 that he would not cast Wonder Woman until he finished the script, Charisma Carpenter and Morena Baccarin expressed interest in the role.

Joss Whedon in November 2006, explaining the delay in developing a proper script said,"Besides [Wonder Woman's] great origin story, there's nothing from the comics that felt right 100 percent, no iconic canon story that must be told. Batman has it made — he's got the greatest rogues gallery ever, he's got Gotham City. The Bat writes himself. With Wonder Woman, you're writing from whole cloth, but trying to make it feel like you didn't. To make it feel like it's existed for 60 years, even though you're making it up as you go along. But who she, and what the movie, is about, thematically, has never been a problem for me. But the steps along the way, it could be so easy for them to feel wrong. I won't settle. She wouldn't let me settle."

In February 2007, Whedon departed from the project, citing script differences with the studio. Whedon reiterated: "I never had an actress picked out, or even a consistent [sic] front-runner. I didn't have time to waste on casting when I was so busy air-balling on the script." Whedon stated that with the Wonder Woman project left behind, he would focus on making his film Goners.

"I would go back in a heartbeat if I believed that anybody believed in what I was doing. The lack of enthusiasm was overwhelming."

A day before Whedon's departure from Wonder Woman, Warner Bros. Pictures and Silver Pictures purchased a spec script written by Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland. Set during World War II, the script impressed executives at Silver Pictures. However, Silver has made clear that he purchased the script because he didn't want it floating around in the industry; although it has good ideas, he doesn't wish for the Wonder Woman film to be a period piece.

Ten months after Whedon's departure from Wonder Woman, producer Joel Silver shelved the movie indefinitely.

On 05 October 2007, Nikki Finke wrote in her column that three producers had told her that Warner Bros. president of production Jeff Robinov had stated that, "we are no longer doing movies with women in the lead." Anne Thompson responded in a 09 October 2007 Variety article which stated that, "despite the failure of three femme-centered actioners produced by Joel Silver, Jeff Robinov insists he is moving forward with several movies with women in the lead." Thompson further noted that Wonder Woman will be appearing in the upcoming Justice League film and that, Robinov is still seeking the right script and star for a "Wonder Woman" feature, which has been in development for a decade... action features starring women remain a hard sell for many moviegoers. But Robinov said he is still willing to put a femme star into an action role. 'But, like any other movie, it has to be the right movie with the right actor and the right filmmaker at the right time,' he said.

The film Justice League of America is slated for a 2010 release. It is based upon the DC Comics publication, the Justice League which has included a number of superheroes in the past including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Atom, Hawkman, Black Canary, and Captain Marvel.[50] An 29 October 2007 article quoted Joel Silver as stating that due to the impending release of Justice League, the Wonder Woman film will be placed on moratorium:

'They're going to make the Justice League movie, and we're kind of pausing on Wonder Woman now... Let them go ahead and do that picture [first]'... The Amazon superhero from the DC Comics series will be a major part of the upcoming JLA. 'And if that comes together, Wonder Woman will be a part of that story,' Silver said. 'And then we'll see where we go from there. But we struggled with it for a while. I hope that we can solve it and make it one day.'

A number of actresses have been reported to be under consideration for the role of Wonder Woman in the Justice League film. Jessica Biel was approached for the role, but passed on it, while Missy Peregrym, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Teresa Palmer, Shannyn Sossamon and Christina Milan expressed interest. It has been reported that supermodel Megan Gale has been cast as the heroine. In early January 2008, it was reported that production of the JLA film has been delayed due to the Writers Guild of America strike.

DESIGNERS HAVING FUN TOO....

Why do the models have all the fun.....In order to know what models go through, you have to get in their shoes....I tried but didn't fit in a size 8 but at least tried, size 15 here, LOL.

In our last photo shoot, we had 4 beautiful models (Adama, Mayte, Sofia and April) , 2 amazing photographers (Beatriz and Christopher-www.stilmak.com), 2 make up artists (Dianna & Annette) and a hair artist (Luis Manuel).

We got to the studio early to set up, the staff was there, food and drinks were out, the girls were coming in. So while the girls were getting beautified, we were discussing the looks and vision for the shoot.

After the discussion, we decided to warm up the cameras....God that's alot of work, Frank and I took about 300 pictures, changed a few times and we had a lovely jeweler named Mindy from Expressions in Gold & Silver (www.expressionsjewelry.net).

Well Mindy brought out awesome pieces, you know I was going for the diamonds. We started building arm and neck candy, was I in heaven or what. We take pics and more pics, I am running back and fourth making sure the girls are being done and telling them what they are going to wear.

I finished my shoot, took off my clothes and went to work with the girls while Frank finished his session. It's alot of fun, alot of work but leave me behind the scenes styling and making sure everything gets done....ENJOY THE PICS....Love, peace and GO GREEN!

THE RETURN OF OLD YELLOW....

One of our signature pieces returns with a new face, Model Adama.....

In our recent photo shoot, We photographed the new "ELEMENTS OF GREEN" collection. I had an epiphany that moment; I wanted to bring back one of the signature pieces that everyone loves. This time in a photo shoot....

The first time it was seen only on the runway, where Miss Morgan Quinn, gave it life when she walked down that white glass runway. To date we have not found anyone to walk this dress like Morgan walked it, many have tried but no ones really nailed it yet.

With Adama, this dress forged with her body, it was poured on like liquid silk and latex. I did not have to give her direction, the dress told Adama what to do, it was seamless, they floated on air. The camera loved them together, it was a true pleasure seeing magic again.

We will do the same with the other two signatures pieces, which are the white dress and the silver screen dress. It was a joy for us to work with Miss Adama again: she's beautiful, patient and a professional; no matter what we threw at her she always delivered. THANK YOU MAMA!

BP, WHAT'S NEXT?

I have been following the news on a daily basis on the oil spill and still nothing. It's been about 55 days now and still oil is gushing out and nothing seems to stops this.

I can only write as a worried spectator, and fashion designer that helps the environment by creating fashion from recycled, recyclable materials and fabrics. My comments are opinions, comments heard or read from TV, Radio, Newspaper and speaking from the heart.

It's a shame this has not been contained yet. I heard the news saying something about being possibly being contained in August; meanwhile, i keep seeing pictures of pelicans covered in oil, giant turtles lifeless being pulled from the oceans, and greenery full of oil. When I head out to a local restaurant and want to order any seafood, my questions is if this from the gulf?

Our government? BP? What's next? How many lives more? How many more oceans, seas, coastlines need to be affected? Also, very little has been spoken about the fisherman's lives being impacted because of this tragedy. Who will be taking care of them and their way of life? Anyone care to comment?

ANGEL'S PEDIATRIC HEART HOUSE-CHARITY OF CHOICE

FRANOVIK DESIGNS always thinking of community has teamed up Angel's Pediatric Heart House, (www.aphh.org).

Angel’s Pediatric Heart House was created in February of 2004 by Sonia Perez. Sonia’s late husband, Dr. Angel R. Perez, was a pediatric cardiologist in the South Florida area. Dr. Perez was a respected cardiologist amongst his colleagues and loved by the families he served. In 1999, Dr. Perez was diagnosed with kidney cancer; and in January of 2000, Dr. Perez succumbed to his illness. He left behind a wife and two daughters.

In September of 2000, Mrs. Perez and her daughters hosted a picnic for the families that were under his care. What was really special that day was that parents and children got an opportunity to meet and socialize with other families affected by CHD in a casual and fun atmosphere. The picnic became an annual event, but it became clear that the families needed more than just an annual event, they needed a place outside of the hospital or physician’s office where they could come together and offer each other social and emotional support throughout the year.

Angel’s Pediatric Heart House is a non-residential, congenital heart defects support community. It is a place where the entire family—parents, CHD child, siblings and relatives—can come together and join others affected by CHD to give hope and encouragement and to share their experiences.

How we help APHH? We include Angel's in all our press releases and events. Hoping to generate revenues for both organizations, a portion is donated to Angel's. This year, Thanks to Mr. Sale Stojanovic, owner of Funkshion Music and Fashion and co-owner of Design Miami, monies collected at all their events throughout this year including our fashion show "Elements of Green", will be donated to Angel's Pediatric Heart House.

Sonia, the driving force behind it all is amazing. This incredible woman, thinks, eats, sleeps APHH. She visits the local children's hospitals and families. It is such a pleasure working with her and her foundation members like Jen, among others. Sonia is truly an inspiration. God Bless....

FRANOVIK'S Lead Fashion Designer, Francisco Perez being interviewed at an Ocean Drive event in South Beach.

Among the questions asked, Why ECO/Green fashions versus the norm? The answer, I am a designer, no matter what I do or what materials I use; I chose to do ECO/Green because I (we) believe we must help our environment, we must protect and promote the message of conservation.

If I, as a designer can give back by creating wearable fashions from discarded fabrics and materials, instead of disposing them to a landfill or burning them, then lets create unique pieces that can be worn on a daily basis.

Just a little history of how we started. We started doing "recycled fashions" a long time ago; we were creating carnival and halloween costumes from bits and pieces, recycled fabrics and materials.

If you design or are someone that likes to make clothes, you know alot of the fabric or material that is cut are large pieces that are left over; then you have to decide either to throw away and store it.

At times this becomes overwhelming because you have so many pieces (if you saved it), and it sits there for a while taking up space. What about your old curtains, tablecloths, or any other material just laying around? With a little imagination, you can it life by creating a fashion forward garment that you can use time and time again.

That goes for vintage pieces as well. It's sitting in your closest just begging to be worn again, depending on the year it was made, it could be dated. You could be bold enough and wear it and just say it's coming back in style or create something new from it.

All you need to do is think what can I create from that and remember, GO GREEN!

Annette and MOTIVES crew at work

Last Sunday at the Famous BILTMORE Hotel in Coral Gables; Annette Rosales and MOTIVE make up artists work on the models to a local fashion show.

We were back stage, as Fashion Designers and MOTIVES distributors, I completely appreciate all the running around and "Got to get it done" within the time constraints.

There were three artists including Annette; These ladies worked fast putting on bright beautiful eye shadows, blended foundations especially made for each model, lining eyes and lips, finishing off with the amazing lipsticks, and an added bonus, the models wanted nail candy (MOTIVES nail polish).

All in all a great MOTIVES evening! We did not stay for the show, we had our own photo shoot to go too; and Yes, we used MOTIVES too.

Hello Everyone,

Just a friendly reminder, I am starting to work on getting sponsors for the upcoming magazine launching, Models&Designers. It has been a pleasure working with all my cherished models and photographers. Yesterday at Gerry Kelly's Fabulous MI-VI Club located in Hallandale Beach, Florida the designers of Franovik were interviewed on the red carpet at the crowning of the two new titleholders, Ms Latina International World (Diana Schoutsen) and Ms Latina International Super Model (Linet Bruzon).

Franovik Designs, the official designers for the Ms Latina International Organization, creates and confections exclusive pieces for all the titleholders including Owner and Pageant Director, Angela Posillico. They are also exclusive costume designers for Miss Earth United States, Miss Teen Earth United States and have dressed titleholders for Miss Intercontinental Florida, Miss Intercontinental Cuba, Miss Earth Cuba, Miss Essence World, and recently Miss Carnival Miami.

On their interview, Francisco and Viktor spoke about their collections on Green Fashion and recently Elements of Green. As Eco Designers, we want to preserve and help our environment by making eco friendly fashions from recycled fabrics, materials and vintage pieces, says Viktor Franovik.

Meet Jose (DeeRay), Franovik's Sound Specialist

Jose, as we know him as Raymond (middle name), or DeeRay-known in the music circuit is our exclusive sound specialist-DJ. He has produced all of the fashion show mixes and all the editorial lounge music we use.

Born in NYC, he's been around the block with some heavy hitters, among them local DJ David Padilla, Ralphi Rosario, David Morales, Larry Levan, among other NY DJ's.

He's played in some local clubs, both in Fort Lauderdale and in Miami, let alone a few in New York. A member of the Fort Lauderdale/Miami record pool and WINTER MUSIC; D-Ray kinds keeps to himself until we call him for a new mix of existing tunes for our shows.

He is particular about his music, being from both eras, (Disco & House) he always looks for the dub versions, house beats and different sounds. we really beat each other up when we sit to discuss what i am looking for the next show. Meet Don Seidman-Photographer

Don Seidman is one of the official photographers of Franovik Designs. We met last year at Funkshion fashion show in 2009. From there to now, Don and I have been working together on such events as the Miss Earth United States, Miss Teen Earth United States, Ms Latina International plus all the fashion events including Green Fashion and Elements of Green.

Don Seidman is a South Florida based professional photographer who specializes in beauty pageants. He is the official non-press photographer for the Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA events. Don has over 40 years of experience in the photography industry and has traveled the world photographing some of the most prestigious events. Don also photographs local and national events including the Winter Fest Boat Parade and the Albuquerque Balloon Festival as well as the other categories listed above.

Meet Angela Posillico-Owner/Director Ms Latina Intl Pageant

Angela and I met last year at Funkshion's fashion show, where Esther Dollar, the current Ms Latina International was one of the models in our show. From there on, Angela-Ms Latina International organization and myself-Franovik Designs have been working side by side.

Angela currently has several delegates with titles, Esther Dollar-Ms Latina International, Silvana Camargo-Ms Latina United States, Linet Bruzon-Ms Latina Supermodel and soon to be crowned Diana Schoutsen from Canada-Ms Latina Intl World.

Angela is also an accomplished Singer and has appeared on various variety shows, cruise lines and off-broad-
way productions. In the Summer of 1999, Angela toured with Jonathan's Big Band and performed excerpts of "Phantom of the Opera". Angela has also competed and directed many Pageants. She had held the Titles of Mrs. New Jersey Globe 1996 and Ms. Morganville NJ United States of America 1997.

Meet Christopher DeStefano

Christopher is my personal rock and the one that takes all the abuse and yet sticks around. This intro could possibly be the longest and the most sincere of all these introductions. I know Chris since the tender age of 18, kind of the "Loco" kid, but a kid prodigy.

Where do I start, He has so many things I Love and admire. He is a bond and SciFi fanatic, his artworks are amazing, detailed, computer skills are the coolest. He went to school for film production and has made several movies which I have been a part of. The Coffee Shop Robbery and It's About Time; both received the Gold Aurora Award, which is the Oscar for student productions. I was honored as well for being his Production Manager, the awards are on my mantle and wall.

He founded his own production company, called DeStefano Studios, the logo is the GAYEST thing you've ever seen. It's a beautiful nude man with angel wings; it truly is artistic but I think it will rub people the wrong way. We as a Country and as a people have to grow; people just don't understand nor care to understand differences.

Lately, Christopher has become my media specialist and fashion sidekick. He photographs, videos, assists with all the stuff that I have to take with me. He is also involved with Models&Designers magazine. He recently interviewed Ex-GOGO Belinda Carlisle and her son Mason, that will be featured in the first issue, due out next year.

On his agenda he has a few other celebs, I, myself want to see Miss Julie Newmar (hint, hint) grace the pages of my magazine. I have a few celeb surprise interviews up my sleeve as well.

Anyway, getting back to the kid, I am most proud of him, It has been an honor and privilege to work by his side on his productions and with mine. I continue to learn from this kid, that drives me crazy but could not live without. If any production company or representative is reading this, hire this man, he would be an asset to any company.

Thank you Christopher for filling my life with joy, headaches, and laughs. We do laugh alot, I get mad too but at the end of the day, I can't be mad for long. Come to think of it, Raymond does the same thing, well that's another Introduction.

Meet Franovik's Lead Fashion Designer

Francisco Perez, born in Caracas, Venezuela, is the one that confections every garment at Franovik Designs; although having two seamstresses assisting us, he oversees all the garments. Francisco, most of us call him "Frank" has been designing for over 20 years now. Frank has a full time job; when he's not working or creating new pieces, you'll find him on the beach; he's quite the dancer and takes care of his mom back home.

Frank is also President of his father's company, Confecciones de Tejido de Punto, P.R. in Venezuela.

Francisco has created several collections, all to be seen in Franovik's magazine, "Models&Designers" due out early next year (www.modelsanddesigners.com).

Well, where do i start? I will start by saying it was a GREAT SHOW, our designs were amazing, everyone liked the show, models were perfect, AVEDA Institute as usual were perfect even with the conditions they were put in. Thanks to my models, support staff, guests and sponsors. I am so glad that Sonia Perez, of Angels Pediatric Heart House was there, made money for this great cause and proceeds of the shows will be donated to the foundation.

Now for the downside to the show, the side everyone is interested in. Things i learned and won't happen again; My next fashion show will only be mine and feature my designers. I will not bring any other designer and feature them in my show, not even out of the goodness of my heart. I did it to give that designer more exposure in our area but it was a nightmare. IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN!

Franovik's Elements of Green fashion show Saturday, March 13-Design District

As we prepare for Fashion Miami, March 10-14; our show on Saturday, March 13, I want to let everyone know the launching of our magazine, Models&Designers will be on the same day, prior to the show. Angel’s Pediatric Heart House was created in February of 2004 by Sonia Perez. Sonia’s late husband, Dr. Angel R. Perez was a respected cardiologist amongst his colleagues and loved by the families he served. In 1999, Dr. Perez was diagnosed with kidney cancer; and in January of 2000, Dr. Perez succumbed to his illness. He left behind a wife and two daughters.

In September of 2000, Mrs. Perez and her daughters hosted a picnic for the families that were under his care. What was really special that day was that parents and children got an opportunity to meet and socialize with other families affected by CHD in a casual and fun atmosphere. The picnic became an annual event, but it became clear that the families needed more than just an annual event, they needed a place outside of the hospital or physician’s office where they could come together and offer each other social and emotional support throughout the year.

Angel’s Pediatric Heart House is a non-residential, congenital heart defects support community. It is a place where the entire family—parents, CHD child, siblings and relatives—can come together and join others affected by CHD to give hope and encouragement and to share their experiences.

Hello All,

Down to the wire, Fashion Miami has been moved to March 10 through 14, and it's off the beach, Now it has been moved to Miami's Design District. We are lookikng at either Thursday 3/11 or Saturday 3/13, let us pray for that night. Last Sunday, we had an amazing photo shot, we had reknown photographers Christopher Makris and Beatriz Stilwell. Our models were Anastagie Pierre, Aubrey Carr and Jolie Schamber, all titleholders from the Miss Earth United States orgnization. Evan they made you proud. We had 12 pieces, it was an amazing shoot, Kathy Martinez was our Hair and Make up artist. All amazing, Thank you ladies.

I am working hard on Models&Designers, our magazine, pictures of the shoot, Gerry Kelly's MI-VI Grand Opening, and Ms Latina International's PARADE OF COSTUMES will be the last pictures to go in the magazine. I have Tessa Boudreaux, Esther Dollar and Carmen Martinez writing articles for the magazine; also i have photographers Don Seidman, Jade, Christopher Makris and Beatrice Stilwell among others taking amazing pics.

There are so many people working on this issue, Peter Landestoy, Christopher De Stefano and Carlos Rosales are graphic art designers working on pictures, ads, flyers, covers, it's endless what these gentlemen are doing. You guys are awesome!

Last but certainly not least, Francisco is working on the collection, It's sure to be another winner, recycled materials and fabrics, we are coverting vintage dresses into new pieces of "Wearable Art". I will be working on new accessories, and headpieces. Finally, after all is done, I'll work on the final look and create the concept to put down the runway, coordinate models, staff, music, media, VIP bags, tickets, seating lists, oh gosh, am i forgeting anything?

This year we get to work with our beautiful models, among them, Jana Murrell, Andrea Gomez, Esther Dollar, Ana Carolina Scarf, hopefully Morgan Quinn, Anastagie Pierre, Aubrey Carr, Jolie Schamber, Vigilis, Tico, and more beautiful women. In all we are expecting about 22 models.

Happy New Year! Well it's another year...can you believe it, 2010, where did 2009 go? Hello Everyone,

I hope and pray everyone's christmas was a good one; ours was wonderful, we rested especially myself, I rested some but kept on working from home. Well I have good news but can't comment as of yet only a header, FRANOVIK and DANCERS (male) in next years fashion show.

People, I am busting out of my seams, If this confirms-since their is an interest, I will have some beautiful male models/dancers on our runway show. More to follow.

On another note, I can tell you, January 30, 2010-Ms Latina International and Franovik will be working together on the Parade of Costumes. Miss Esther Dollar, current Ms Latina International will be struting her stuff in an original FRANOVIK costume of peacock feathers and jewels. Esther is a beautiful representative and will represent her title and this costume awesomely.

To all our friends, new friends and friends to come, We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

Many of our fans have told me that they saw me on TV, Indeed I was, Thanks to the folks of the Winterfest Boat Parade, who made this happen. This year we had the pleasure to dress Winterfest Boat Parades CEO, Lisa Scott Founds and Seminole Hard Rock's Director of Special Events Susan Renneisen. They looked smashing. You can catch both of them and myself at the Winterfest Boat Parade broadcast, which will be shown again on New years day January 1, 2010 on CHANNEL 7 at noon. Look for it to be sure.

We were also in the Boat Parade, boat #86, Spirit of Lauderdale(Shake a leg/Sun Sentinel/Franovk Designs) boat although we are not mentioned but you do see me on the boat with our guests including the beautiful Miss Teen Earth United States Jolie Schamber.

For 2010, Franovik Designs will be in 4 major shows, one of them being Funkshion Music and Fashion Week, others we are looking is Toronto Fashion week, Mexico Fashion Week and ultimate show New York Couture week.

Our good friend Miss Cristina Palesi is doing her best to have us in a Milan fashion show very soon.

Hello All,

A shocker today with the death of Actress Britney Murphy; We (Franovik) were going to be tied with Miss Britney, (may she rest in piece)in an upcoming event, tied into her new movie in January. She was very cute actress, we were so looking to dressing her, she will be missed.

It's Sunday, i have a few friends in NY, who are snowed in; i'd love to be there right now. First thing i'd do is go to White Castle and have me a few burgers. Then i'd go down to the city for a little R&R, thinking back when i used to walk the streets of NY and in the snow.

Anyway, believe it or not, we rested today; although, I am working on the magazine, Models&Designers, this magazine will be awesome, all of our fashion shows, editorial shots, social page called, Out&About and a few articles. If anyone has pics of events we've been too and you want to place them in the magazine, send them to me. Send them in high res, 300 dpi and above so i can work on them, info@franovik.com.

We don't have plans for christmas eve; we have had several invitations but kinda holding out til that ultimate party shows up, any suggestions? New year just 2 weeks away, same thing, have some invitations already, really looking forwward to year two of this journey....

Amazing Year!

Well, it's the holidays and heading to a new year. Wow, how time flys when your'e having fun; We were in the Winterfest Boat Parade last night, Yes, our own vessel in the most famous parade on the water. We were on the amazing "Spirit of Lauderdale" and 60 foot catamaran, fully light and decorated. We were number 86 in the parade. We got rained on for about an hour and a half. We had drinks and food and the coolest crew. Thank you to our Captain, David, Nick, and Jacob, "You Guys Rock". We also want to thank Deanne, Angela, Lisa, Kathy, Dawn, Susan, Doug and so many others that contribute to great parade.

We went to all the Winterfest Parties; Winterfest, Seminole Hard Rock and Sixth Star Productions really know how to put on a party, we had a blast.

We had a couple of shows in between the parties, the Seminole Immakolee Diamond show was also a great show, my girls rocked our fashions; the diamonds complimented all our pieces. Then there was the Art Basel show where we showed our green fashions along Fashion Designer Rosita Hurtado. Rosita is a dream to work with, her fashions were increible, but most of all she is such a sweet lady.

Our models, a warm and special thank you for all your dedication to us and our modeling needs. It's tough to work and not paid for all the hours you put in, promise that is going to change, We have paid our dues already.

2010 holds two big shows, looking forward to them; next year we will be dressing more of celebs, public figures and working on our client base. We need to dedicate time to them.

Also coming down the pipeline is our magazine, Models&Designers magazine-March 2010, (www.modelsanddesigners.com). This magazine will showcase our fashion shows, great editorials of our designs, and a section called Out&About Franovik Style that will show us around different parties and events. We will also have a few articles written by your editor-myself, and a few correspondents, (Esther Dollar, Angela Posillico, Steve Cabeza, among others).

We are grateful for the opportunities that we have had this year, we have worked with increible models, people, celebs, foundations, organizations, and institutions.

Our christmas wish is for much needed peace and health, thank our men and women abroad for keeping us safe, help us keep our environment and planet clean, and blessings to all.
